The Motherhood Journey: The honest truth that no one tells you

It is said that you become a mom since the first day you get to know about your pregnancy, the same happened with me too. On 5th October 2022, I got to know that I’m expecting and the emotions that were running through my mind was insanely amazing. I went to the Doctor for all the necessary checkups after, and was very excited to share the news with the family. the beginning of motherhood is marked by excitement. those nine months came with mix of physical as well as emotional changes and later I realized that my life is going to take a beautiful turn.

The excitement for preparing for the arrival of my baby, setting up the nursery, getting super confused with the names and imagining what my life will look like with my baby around my arms, this was how my usual days looked like, But with the happiness, comes the morning sickness, fatigue, mood swings, emotional changes, which is a very difficult phase for few would be moms. In my case, I was learning to adapt the changes my body was making.

There is a saying, that Time passes too quickly, and trust me with blink of an eye, those nine months will pass and the day will arrive when you will get to hold your baby. As, I was having few complications, i decided not to wait for the natural birth but rather go with the artificial induce of pain. Being in Labour for almost 15 hours, i gave up and called my Doc for an immediate C Section. trust me, no mother can describe the feeling of first seeing their kid, or the first cry, the very first touch. emotions runs through the eyes making it wet, and tears rolling in. When you have gone through surgery, they will keep you for an observation of 2 hours and later you can meet the family and your baby. The surreal feeling of holding my baby for the very first time and watching her asleep the whole night, thinking how beautiful this tiny creature is.

The real challenge starts when you are back home, without the help of nurse, you need to take care of the tiniest creature. Sleepless nights, struggling to feed, but constantly trying to feed, exhausting feeling yet smiling watching them and feeling alright. This journey will bring lots of emotional roller caster ride, mix of joy, frustration, self doubt and love.

As motherhood evolves, so does your sense of self. The biggest challenge for many mums is to find identity after becoming a mother. There is a shift from your dreams, career, and relationship to that of being a mom. it is important to take out time for yourself and give self care even if its almost impossible. The major role at this stage is played by your partner, who will not only take care of the baby but also navigate this journey with you.
